When Felicia Emerson died in 1916, she willed her home, the Simeon Strong House (c. 1758, one of the oldest in Amherst, MA), to the Amherst Historical Society. We had our first exhibition in 1899 and now had a permanent home for our collection of almost 1000 objects. For the past one hundred years, the Simeon Strong House has been a hub of learning in downtown Amherst.

Understanding community history fosters civic pride and this valued institution serves us all. But we need your help. Your donation supports our efforts to engage people with our collections and shared history, now and for generations to come. We depend entirely on private donations and volunteer efforts to maintain of our extensive collections, the Simeon Strong House and its grounds, and for support of our educational and outreach activities. Our goal for Giving Tuesday this year is $1000.

This year, funds raised during Giving Tuesday will go towards collections care, which means bringing in trained conservators to develop conservation-treatment plans for the repair and preservation of items in our collection.  With proper care, these important pieces of Amherst’s history will be preserved not only for our generation, but for generations to come.

Your contribution supports our belief that Amherst’s history is rich, alive and deserves to be shared with the public. Our mission is to connect you to the town of Amherst, its history and its culture. To fulfill our mission, we need your help.
