FWWAA provides individuals with physical disabilities opportunities that are not found anywhere else - adults who enjoy competition and want to stay fit; Paralympic hopefuls; wounded warriors recovering from injuries sustained in service to our country; families with a child born with a disability struggling to find activities for their child. 

"My son started playing (power soccer) 5 years ago and as a result, has made friendships with people facing similar challenges all over California and the United States.  On the court he is a leader and a very aggressive player.  He has gained so much self-confidence and pride through playing power soccer and states, “he would not be the same person if he didn’t play power soccer.”  Being the only student at his high school in a wheelchair, he has to deal with odd looks, discrimination, and being left out because he can’t do something in his wheelchair.  Because of power soccer, my son has a place to go where he doesn't have to deal with those types of things and can just be himself, and have fun." "FWWAA makes such a tremendous impact on individuals including myself that participate in their programs to grow as people both on and off the court. With the funding that is provided to FWWAA it gives them the ability to provide resources for many of their participants to experience their “firsts” or otherwise activities that were deemed impossible to try due to a disability that was holding them back. "My son, Nate, had a benign tumor in his hip when he was in 2nd grade.  After a successful surgery, he wasn’t able to run.  A friend recommended he try wheelchair sports.  It was such a wonderful experience for him.  Wheel chair sports let him go fast and be athletic, despite his disability.  We would drive from Santa Cruz to San Jose twice a week for practices.  The coaching, support and other team members made the experience so positive."  Sue Armstrong, parent of athlete

"This summer will make it twenty years since I first got involved with Far West Wheelchair Athletic Association. Over the years it has made it possible for me to travel to different states, make many friends, and given me skills that I can apply to my everyday life. Since I became an adult, I have been volunteering for Far West, and I love every minute of it. This organization has inspired me to pursue a career in recreational therapy.
