A Little Love Goes a Long Way

On a cold day in December 2014, sitting beside an unhoused friend, the dream of Spread the Love Commission was born. It began with a belief: that there is truly enough #love—in the form of #essential #supplies, #support, and #respect—for everyone, especially those who aren’t getting enough of it: our #unhoused and #displaced neighbors across the U.S. We simply needed to identify the surplus supplies and resources already around us and personally redistribute them to the people who needed them most. By sharing our experiences—and the stories of the people we served—we hoped to inspire understanding, compassion, and action from those in a position to help.

That early winter evening, almost 11 years ago, we set out to make this dream a reality. Our first outreach consisted of two volunteers, $150, and 50 assembled care packages of donated supplies. Through that initial effort, we saw firsthand that a little love truly goes a long way. With just one full-time staff member and a dedicated team of #volunteers, #supporters, and #partners, we have now provided essential supplies, outreach, and advocacy to 42 cities and communities in need—and counting. To date, we’ve collected and distributed over $3 million worth of high-quality supplies and assistance to more than 30,000 people. Thanks to all of YOU, the love continues to grow every year.
