Help Camp Starlight reach for the stars!

camp starlight holds such a special place in my heart.

last summer I had the chance to volunteer there and it was one of the most joyful and meaningful experiences of my life. I love kids deeply and getting to spend a whole week surrounded by their laughter, creativity, and big personalities was incredible. camp was full of swimming, arts and crafts, games, campfires, music, and so many moments of pure joy.

camp starlight is a weeklong summer camp for children whose lives have been affected by HIV/aids and the stigma surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community. some campers are HIV+ themselves and others have a parent, sibling, or loved one who is. many of them spend their lives navigating things most kids never have to think about.

at camp they get a full week to breathe, play, make friends, and feel celebrated exactly as they are.

what struck me the most was how loving and inclusive the environment is. the campers show up with so much courage and so much heart. watching friendships form, seeing shy kids open up, hearing laughter echo across the field, and cheering each other on during the talent show was truly beautiful.

I felt more free and joyful at camp than I have felt in a long time. there is something really special about being in a place where every kid is welcomed, cared for, and encouraged to shine.

camp starlight has been running since 1999. it is entirely volunteer run and completely free for campers and their families. donations help cover meals, supplies, swimsuits, towels, clothing, and everything needed to create a safe and magical week for these kids.

this year I am helping raise funds through the reach for the stars campaign so camp can continue to be there for every child who wants to attend.
