Changing Lives Through Theater

Dear Friends,

We here at Cornerstone are honored to be a part of a company that makes connections within community, provides opportunities and changes lives through theater. And your support helps to make it possible. Here are a few recent stories I am excited to share with you…

• Jenny Marlowe, actor and activist of Ojibwe descent, found Cornerstone as an actor in Urban Rez and stayed. She is now a Cornerstone Community Council member. “It's not hyperbole when I say that Cornerstone changed my life. The strength of the community … – the family that welcomed me in – taught me more than I ever expected to learn about my city and the people in it; and those bonds are built to last.”
• Last year's production of fellowship, a play for volunteers in Watts, led two of our partner organizations, Food Forward and the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) to work together to create change in South LA. This year thousands of low-income neighbors have access to FREE fresh fruits and vegetables through the new MudTown Farmers Market initiative. Produce recovered from wholesalers is distributed at the farmers market at the WLCAC. The experience of coming together to create a play planted the seeds of awareness and built trust, leading to action and change.
