Getting the Word Out |
Using the D.I.Y. ideology of "punk-zine" culture, A.B.O. Comix is a collective of creators and activists who work to amplify the voices of LGBTQIA+ prisoners through art. AB.O. began with an ethos of mutual support, community, and friendship. We believe that artistic advocacy proliferates the idea of a better world and redefines concepts of justice, where interpersonal and societal issues can be solved without locking people in cages. Our mission is to combat the culture that treats humans as disposable and disproportionately criminalizes the most marginalized among us.
A.B.O. Comix works toward compassionate accountability without relying on the state or its sycophants. By working closely with prison abolitionist and queer empowerment organizations, we aim to keep Queer prisoners connected to their outside communities and aid them in the fight toward liberation. We collaborate with incarcerated individuals around the U.S. to publish poetry, comic book anthologies, auto-biographies, art books, and zines. The profits generated from publication, art, and merchandise sales go to our incarcerated contributors as commissary or familial support.
