Action Centered Tutoring Services

ACTS provides free, one-to-one tutoring and mentoring to elementary school students in Springfield. We give kids a little extra boost to help them build confidence, improve academically and feel good about school. We work with about 80 elementary school students each week during the school year. Our volunteers include high school and college students, teachers, retirees, and caring adults from all walks of life. We provide training and guidance. ACTS volunteers give back 5,000 hours to the community each year.  Our volunteer tutors give their time to help students be the best they can be. The two- hour sessions each week provide valuable time for school work, social interaction, and care and support. In addition to enhancing basic skills in reading, writing and math, our tutors help children feel good about school, support their desire to succeed, promote positive social interactions, and build confidence. We have a lot of fun, too!  

While we have existed since 1986, we're are working hard to increase our services to elementary school students to help them regain the lost educational opportunities resulting from the pandemic.  We have 6 sites in Springfield and hope to add 2 additional sites in 2024.
