Kentucky's First No-Kill Dog and Cat Rescue.

Serving pets and families for forty years!

This Giving Tuesday, help us create a safer, more comfortable space for the pets who need it most.

We’re raising $20,000 to renovate our Isolation Building, the space where some of the most vulnerable and highly stressed animals in our care begin their journey to healing. With new flooring, refitted kennels, and a cleaner, safer environment, we can provide a calm, healthy space that accommodates more animals during intake and ensures every pet has a chance to recover comfortably.

The Isolation Building isn’t just for sick animals — it’s also a sanctuary for pets who need a break from the hectic shelter environment. Take Nala, for example. Nala came to us after her single owner faced hard times. Transitioning from the comfort of her home to a busy shelter was overwhelming, and she struggled with stranger reactivity. Thanks to the quiet, calming environment of the Isolation Building, Nala was able to decompress and regain her confidence. We’re thrilled to share that she has since been adopted, and her new family absolutely adores her.

Stories like Nala’s are only possible because of spaces like the Isolation Building. Your gift directly impacts the animals who rely on ACS for safety, comfort, and compassionate care, providing them a place to heal both physically and emotionally.

About the Animal Care Society

Founded in 1984, the Animal Care Society (ACS) is a 501(c)(3) private, No-Kill adoption agency for dogs and cats. We are privately funded and volunteer-driven, relying entirely on memberships, donations, and adoption fees — we receive no government funding.

For decades, ACS has spoken for the voiceless, leading by example to provide humane, responsible, and loving care for every dog and cat in our facility. Over the past ten years alone, we have placed more than 8,000 pets into devoted, responsible homes, demonstrating our sustained positive impact on the community.

Our Mission & Vision

Mission: To find safe, loving forever homes for adoptable dogs and cats, while providing compassionate, no-kill care from the moment they arrive.

Vision: ACS strives to be the trusted place where:

  • Families can surrender a pet knowing it will receive humane and loving care.

  • Every animal is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion.

  • Adopters find healthy, happy pets ready for a new chapter.

  • Volunteers feel valued, empowered, and connected to the animals they help.

  • Staff members are appreciated and equipped to provide excellent care and service.

  • Donors feel confident their contributions are making a meaningful difference.

Core Values

Compassion – Every animal receives devoted attention and humane care in a no-kill environment. Integrity – Each pet receives optimal medical and behavioral care, and animals are only euthanized in rare cases of incurable conditions where it is the most humane option. Dignity – Every person and animal we serve receives respect and appreciation. Dedication – For over 30 years, ACS has remained a steadfast advocate for no-kill care and animal welfare.

Membership & Volunteerism

Our members and volunteers are the heart of ACS. Members provide essential financial support, while volunteers play a vital role in daily animal care, enrichment, and companionship. Their contributions make ACS a meaningful, life-changing place for both people and pets.

History

ACS was established in 1983 by nine passionate founding members. As membership grew and funds allowed, the Westport Road Center was built in 1988, expanding our ability to serve more animals and strengthen our commitment to compassionate, no-kill care.

Your gift matters.

This Giving Tuesday, help us renovate our Isolation Building and provide a safe, calm, and welcoming space for the animals who need it most. Together, we can give every pet — like Nala — the space to decompress, heal, and thrive, and ensure that every animal who comes to ACS has a chance at a brighter, healthier future.
