Champions for Health

The San Diego County Medical Society Foundation dba Champions For Health addresses the unanswered healthcare needs of low-income and uninsured San Diego County residents. Since 2008, Champions for Health has facilitated over $27 million in pro bono specialty care, procedures, and surgeries in collaboration with a network of physicians, hospitals, and clinics across San Diego County. These life-saving services have been provided to more than 9,600 patients who have been able to regain their health, return to work, care for their families, and remain productive members of their community.

The social determinants of health are addressed in community settings through blood pressure screenings, vaccination events, and Live Well San Diego Speaker’s Bureau presentations. We are the largest in-the-field immunization provider in the County targeting geographic areas with low immunization/insurance rates with a team of nurses and medical assistants leading the charge, working alongside volunteer physicians, nurses and nursing students, resulting in 33,000+ immunization doses being provided to San Diegans annually so that they can be engaged in their health.

We mobilize volunteer physicians and our network of partners to serve the uninsured with prevention and specialty care treatment, and step into the gap with defined programs, improving access to care, supporting physicians and the medical community and improve community and physician wellness. Health is a right for every human.
