Colin's Hope

Founded in 2008 after Jeff and Jana Holst lost their 4-year-old son Colin to drowning. Colin's Hope educates children and families about water safety and honors Colin’s legacy through drowning prevention. Drowning remains the #1 cause of death in children 0-4, and a leading cause of injury related death for all children. Research shows that for every fatal drowning, there are at least 7 non-fatal drownings with devastating impacts on families. 

Our mission is to raise water safety awareness among parents, children, and caregivers to prevent children from drowning. We envision a world where children do not drown.

Drowning is FAST. Drowning is SILENT. But with your support, drowning IS PREVENTABLE!

Key drowning prevention initiatives include: 

• Free, bilingual Water Safety with Colin and Friends curriculum for all at www. drowningispreventable.org
• Water Safety Program in partnership with the YMCA where Austin and Central Texas children learn to swim and important water safety lessons
• Life Jacket Loaner Stations in local and state parks
• Bathtub Safety Campaign to protect the youngest children
