Elk Grove Writers Guild Inc

The Elk Grove Writers Guild started with one aspiring writer who wanted to write a novel and had no idea where to begin. She researched the elite Writers Conferences, like the ones in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City. They sounded like just what she needed, but she couldn't afford to go. The conferences cost between $900 and $3000 to attend. What she did was find some like-minded writers and do a Writers Conference right in her local community where it was needed. 

The Elk Grove Writers Guild was established February 2, 2020. Our mission is to help writers be the best they can be through our efforts to provide educational programs and events, opportunities for networking, and the opportunity for sharing their work-in-progress on our Google-docs critiquing system for feedback and suggestions on improvement of their writing for any genre they choose to write. 

We also provide a Newsletter which goes out the first day of every month. We publish our members' works and other writer's works in it upon request. The Newsletter is also full of writing tips, other writing group news, and all our Elk Grove Writers Guild News and upcoming programs and activities. Usually on the last page, we offer some "writing prompts" for someone stuck on what to write.

We have a website, https://egweg.org, which contains our Racial Equity Statement, tells our story and presents our 501(c)(3) nonprofit documents, has an Invitation to Join and Membership Application, Author Page with their pictures and published book covers displayed, a Donate Page, and a newsletter section where anyone can read any issue of our Newsletter. Our newest additions to the website are our resource section which allows our members access to checking out writing class material, and our online library of writing-related books to borrow, plus a critique request page for getting an author-member to review a work-in-progress. Our website is always going through maintenance and revision updates which keep our website current and more useful.

The Elk Grove Writers Guild has improved their funding picture and will continue to help writers be the best they can be through educational events, with fresh new topics, and improved opportunities to network.
