House of Blue Hope: 2021 year end giving
$97,726 Raised
The overall mission of Blue Hope is to raise funds, resources, social awareness, and provide other support for a variety of self-sustaining social development projects and programs, both domestically and abroad, in order to effectively fight social injustice at a grass roots level. As of its founding, Blue Hope is primarily focusing on working with education, poverty, and children's issues in Tanzania, East Africa and has done so by constructing and supporting a residential and educational facility and its outreach program.
The idea for the House of Blue Hope was conceived in December 2006 by a teacher at Loyola High School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a few young alumni of the school, as a small attempt to help extend the gift of education to vulnerable children in Dar es Salaam who were not enrolled in schools. A small governing board of both U.S. and Tanzanian citizens was formed, and the House of Blue Hope Foundation was then registered as a non-profit organization in the U.S. to support the project financially. Funds were raised in the U.S., and within two months a small plot was purchased in Mabibo, Dar es Salaam in February 2007. More funds were raised, blueprints were drawn, and construction on a facility to house these children started in June 2007.
By December 2007, the ground level of the facility was constructed, and nine adolescent and teenage boys moved into the house in January 2008. They were enrolled into schools and provided with all basic needs at the house. Currently, The U.S. foundation is looking to raise funds to expand the facility to add a first floor, which will accommodate additional children, while the Tanzanian trust is working on partnerships with other NGOs of similar mission to ensure the successful operation of the house.
