Just Roots makes a difference in our community. 
Did you know that in 2017, Just Roots:

• Fed 225 families with local, healthy food grown at Just Roots’ farm in Greenfield, MA.
• Ensured 70% of our produce went to low income families.
• Made weekly donations of fresh produce to local shelters, food pantries and our local pay-what-you can café.
• Piloted a resident-led Mobile Farm Share Program, increasing food to 55 families living in low-income housing.
  • 100% increased intake of vegetables at home
  • 91% were more willing to try new vegetables
  • 30% cooked together more at home
  • 45% felt connected to at least one more person in their community
• Embarked on the first of a three-year scientific research study to calculate the health impacts of CSA participation and influence future government and insurer funding.
• Became the largest low-income CSA farm share program in the state of Massachusetts (offered by a single farm)
• Provided garden plots to 67 individuals/families/organizations in its Community Garden.
• Hosted hundreds of school kids throughout the year, engaging them in the farm and connecting them to the food they eat.

In 2018 Just Roots will bring:

• More local food to more families in need – expanding our CSA to reach 300.
• Mobile Farm Shares into our low-income housing communities.
• Continuation of much loved intervention programming including Build-Your-Own Cookbook, cooking demos, recipes, health screenings and more.
• Preliminary findings of our research study – leading to initial conversations with two key health insurers.
• Investment in our farm so that we may grow more healthy food for more people in need.

Just Roots promises to continue to make our programs available to more members of our community, develop these programs into scalable models to reach beyond our local community, and continue our scientific research and inclusive projects that bring everyone to the table.
