This Giving Tuesday: Back San Diego's Fastest-Growing Jewish Nonprofit
395% increase in families served this year alone.
That's not just a number, that's 395% more Jewish families who were one step from losing everything and found hope instead. That's the fastest growth of any Jewish nonprofit in San Diego, and here's why it matters:
We're growing because the need is exploding. And because what we do actually works.
Want to make a difference? A real difference? Start here. Start now.
While others refer families out, we walk alongside them. Our customized concierge case management doesn't just hand someone a phone number—we show up at their homes, teach them to budget, help them find jobs, furnish their apartments, and guide them from crisis to independence.
Our impact:
That 395% growth? It means families are finding us. They're getting help. They're transforming their lives.
But here's the reality: every day, more Jewish families in San Diego are slipping toward crisis—job loss, medical emergencies, impossible housing costs. They need us now. You might need us now, or know someone who needs us now.
You want to back an organization rooted in Tikkun Olam? Back the one that's actually repairing our world, one family at a time.
This Giving Tuesday, invest in San Diego's fastest-growing solution to Jewish poverty.
Your gift doesn't help just one family, it fuels hundreds of Jews in San Diego who count on all of us for support.
Kindness isn't just what we do, it's who we become, together.
Our Mission
Who We Are Our mission is to alleviate poverty in San Diego's Jewish community by mitigating individual crises and fostering self-sustainability, rooted in kindness, empathy, and Jewish values. Fully dedicated to our Jewish community, we go far beyond crisis. We walk alongside families, building lives through dignity, education, and personalized one-on-one concierge case management that meets each person exactly where they are.
Kindness Initiative and kindnessG’MACH stand as pillars of support for the Jewish community in San Diego. Recognizing a significant need within our community, we have committed ourselves to providing essential services and support to those living on the edge of poverty. According to community studies conducted in 2019 and 2022, approximately 20% of the 56,200 Jewish households in San Diego face financial hardships, living in or near poverty. This statistic underscores the importance of our mission and the urgency of our work.
Why We Exist Kindness Initiative was founded on compassion and empathy, focusing on assisting struggling Jewish households with dignity and Jewish values. We aim to make a significant impact through customized concierge case management that not only address immediate needs but also promote long-term self-sufficiency and stability. We are the home to the only G'MACH in San Diego, serving more than 9,600 Jewish community members a year.
Inspired by Jewish values, we work to strengthen lives, through compassionate support.
Kindness Initiative believes no Jewish household in San Diego County should face life’s challenges alone. Through our wrap-around services, Kindness Initiative team seeks to alleviate the pressures and complexity of financial insecurity, by assisting Members to access the resources they need to achieve self-sufficiency.
Adopt-A-Kindness Family (AKF) allows you or your organization to make a substantial difference in the life of a specific, local Jewish individual or household, through a monthly contribution of $360, per Member. One hundred percent of this gift goes directly to the family each month, and you receive a tax deduction for supporting them through Kindness Initiative.
The monthly funds can be life-transforming for Kindness Initiative Member that is struggling with impossible financial choices: paying for food or medicine; rent or utilities, transportation or child care. For Kindness Initiative Members who have lost jobs, become ill, face mounting financial challenges, or are on the brink of homelessness, AKF funds make a significant difference in preventing displacement, and the downward spiral of ever more difficult circumstances.
You can help San Diego families to mitigate these hardships, by committing to a 12-month recurring donation.
