King Manor Association of Long Island Inc

A nonprofit organization

Jamaica Avenue is not a legally-designated cultural corridor, but it might as well be. Start at Merrick Boulevard and end at the AirTrain, and you’ll pass over half a dozen sites of arts and culture, ranging from fine arts, to art-making, to live performance and poetry, and several historic buildings, the oldest of which is King Manor, the community anchor inside Rufus King Park. Although parts of the museum date back to the 1750s, the museum’s mission and vision are fresh and relevant.

King Manor Museum’s mission is to interpret founding father Rufus King’s political legacy and antislavery history to teach critical thinking for a healthier democracy. At the center of the most highly-used green space in the area, we are uniquely important to the well-being of the community. Queens residents and local workers regularly call our museum an oasis in the urban bustle of downtown Jamaica. We want to provide a high-quality museum experience like one would expect at a much larger institution on a personal scale, right here in the heart of our neighborhood. We welcome our diverse audiences through engaging school tours, free historic site visits, local art exhibits, interactive workshops, and numerous community events.

With our antislavery history and community focus, we care deeply about social inequities at King Manor. Your donation helps us keep our public programs affordable, or even free so that economic status is not a barrier to participation! Thank you for supporting King Manor, your historic home.
