The King's Refuge

The King’s Refuge is a Christ-Centered 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to fostering connection, restoring/healing weary souls, and equipping men and women to ultimately lead with an eternal conviction and true direction.

America is facing a crisis of men and women without purpose, direction, and spiritual leadership.  The consequences are felt in homes, the workplace, and our community.  Families are adrift and falling apart, communities lose foundational morale, churches lack enough qualified leaders, children and teenagers end up in crisis, as statistics.  

As a source of REFUGE, we offer the opportunity to step away from daily trials and distractions to engage in transformational experiences that deepen the relationship with God and others on the same journey.  HEALING and GROWTH happens through Biblical Counseling, adventure-based outdoor discipling, and leadership workshops, training, and collaboration. 

The mission is of paramount importance to the health of our families and community.

Biblical Counseling

Biblical Counseling is the private, compassionate, intensive ministry of God’s word.  It is the RESTORATIVE ministry of the care and cure of souls.  

Biblically-grounded counseling provides guidance to actually change and heal.  Biblical Counseling addresses the condition of the heart in pursuit of victory over struggles with anxiety, depression, addiction, sexual integrity, and grief.  Counseling also provides direction and support for marriages and families in crisis. 

Biblical Counseling serves individuals, groups, couples, and pastoral staff.  Counseling is administered in 1-on-1 private weekly sessions, multi-day intensive retreats, and in group settings. 

Our model will offer counseling free of charge, without the financial or insurance hurdles of traditional therapy and counseling that too often keeps people from getting the help they need.   

Our counselors are ACBC certified or pursuing ACBC certification.  The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) was founded in 1976.  Since 1976 the organization has grown from a handful of certified counselors to membership in the thousands, making ACBC the oldest and largest biblical counseling certifying organization in the world.   

There already exists a significant gap in the state between needed and available counseling care.  Our belief is that the opportunity and need today for Biblical Counseling is practically limitless.  We are praying and planning to support 3 fulltime counselors by 2027 and TWELVE by the end of 2028.

Outdoor Adventures

Rooted in the belief that God’s creation points unmistakably to his glory and his love for us, this ministry creates space for spiritual renewal and connection through retreats and shared experiences.  Time away from distraction allows men, families, and youth to see God more clearly and discover him more deeply.

If you’ve ever spent a weekend on the White River chasing trout, floated down the Buffalo, or camped in the Ozarks, you know – It just feels different.  And it is hard to deny the majesty is attributable to anything other than a loving God.  We know, because we’ve all experienced it – Time spent in God’s creation is good for the soul.  It is also the very best environment for deepening connections with those you are with, whether it is with family members or men you just met.  We will curate experiences that set the table for these connections and provide a respite for the tired soul that serves others.

Leadership Development

"Leadership Development” is a very broad category or umbrella.  For us, it’s addressing the need for men and women to LEAD faithfully in the workplace, the home, and their community

Men in particular come to us with a variety of hurdles that are keeping them from LEADERSHIP, from feeling UN-qualified, to struggling with being DIS-qualified from leadership, to not having a picture of what that even looks like.

This is the “equipping the saints” part of the ministry.   Our aim is to unlock a desire and devotion to the kind of servant leadership that Jesus modeled.  From CEOs to Executive Directors to front-line workers and admin, all are called to serve and lead faithfully.   Godly leadership can and should be the mode, regardless of position, regardless of industry.  We provide the inspiration, training, and tools to lead wherever they are "planted."
