MISSION: To empower, mentor, and develop urban youth through Technology and the Arts (STEAM)--giving them the tools to thrive in the entertainment industry.
Mandate Project Impact, Inc. (MPI) is a San Diego, California nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering underserved youth and young adults ages 16–26 through STEAM education, workforce development, mentorship, and community engagement. MPI focuses on the integration of Technology and the Arts, providing hands-on training and career development opportunities in multimedia production, audio and video engineering, live event production, broadcasting, marketing, social media, project management, and other creative and technical career pathways.
MPI works in partnership with nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and corporate partners to create educational programs, workforce opportunities, community events, media productions, and public awareness initiatives. Through these partnerships and a “Projects With a Mission” approach, MPI uses the arts and entertainment industry as a platform to develop skills, build confidence, promote leadership, and expand access to career and community resources.
MPI Founder and CEO Dr. Leonard J. Thompson III brings more than 45 years of experience in the entertainment industry and more than 30 years of experience working with youth through the San Diego Unified School District in Race, Human Relations & Advocacy, where he mentored students to succeed academically and encouraged them to pursue higher education. His extensive entertainment-industry career began as a musician and evolved into executive leadership, artist management, concert production, marketing, consulting, and radio broadcasting. For more than 30 years, he has led the extraordinarily successful M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records, managing artists, producing major concerts, providing marketing and consultancy services, and operating a 24-hour radio station.
Beyond client projects, MPI produces two of its own major concert endeavors: the Bayside Gospel Concert Aboard the Midway and the Pacific Soul Jazz Festival. Prior to the Pacific Soul Jazz Festival, MPI produced Jazz at the Creek annually for 14 years.
MPI's goal is to prepare young people with the knowledge, practical experience, mentorship, and professional skills needed to pursue meaningful careers while contributing to stronger, healthier communities.
FACILITY & EQUIPMENT
Mandate Project Impact, Inc. (MPI) corporate offices house a professional, multi-purpose training and production facility designed to support hands-on workforce development in Technology and the Arts (STEAM). The facility includes a Radio Station, Audio Engineering Booth with an adjacent Audio & Video Recording Floor, Multimedia Studio with Video Editing Bay and Podcast Area, and Training/Conference Room.
MPI interns and workforce-development participants receive hands-on training using computers, professional audio and video equipment, photography and video cameras, drones and accessories, recording and broadcasting equipment, video-editing technology, and other multimedia production tools. This experience enables participants to develop practical technical skills while learning the production workflows, technology, teamwork, and professional standards expected in today's creative and entertainment workforce.
