What Makes Our Wheels turn:

"History informs, inspires, and defines us. It opens us to new ideas, offers us new perspectives, and brings us closer to the future we long to create."

We are a group of Mead area residents who are passionate about saving the rich history of Mead and the surrounding historic communities. Our mission statement tells it all:

"The Mead Area Historical Society’s mission is to provide stewardship for the Mead, Colorado, and surrounding communities' significant history by nurturing respectful discovery, preservation, collection, and education.  We are organized exclusively for educational and historic purposes and encourage the teaching of local history as well as promoting the care and perpetuation of our community’s historic legacy. "

This year we have two major goals:

The first is to raise the money need to hire an architectural preservationist to write the final application to get the Mead Methodist church building, built in 1907, on the National Registry of Historic Places. Cost is $5,000.

The second is to create a fund with the Longmont Community Foundation that we will use to award an annual History Legacy Scholarships to a Mead High School senior. We want to give one student a year a $500 scholarship toward college or a trade/vocational school. We need a minimum of $2,000 to create our fund, but are hoping that we can raise $5,000 so that we can keep this scholarship going for many years to come.
