For 25 years, People for Pets – Magic Valley Humane Society has proudly operated the Twin Falls Animal Shelter.

Our organization began with a group of community members deeply concerned about the inhumane conditions dogs faced in the City of Twin Falls. At that time, the county had no shelter at all, and the City shelter did not accept cats. Dogs were held for only 48 hours before being euthanized, leading to a staggering 98% euthanasia rate. The facility itself was unsanitary, lacked heat and cooling, and on many weekends animals went two full days without clean kennels or food. People for Pets stepped in and changed everything.

We ensured that every pet from Twin Falls City and County—dogs and cats—had a safe place to go. When we began, the county population was under 60,000. Today it is well over 90,000 and still growing. With that growth, our intake has risen to over 3,400 pets each year, and we remain committed to keeping them safe until they are adopted or returned to their owners. We’ve built strong partnerships with rescues and shelters, and expanded our outreach through traditional and social media to find homes, educate pet owners, and engage businesses and individuals.

We worked closely with local veterinarians to provide low-cost spay/neuter services and vaccinations for shelter pets. We improved the shelter environment to make it clean, healthy, and enriched for both animals and visitors, often using grant funding to support these efforts.

Throughout our 25-year history, many of our founding members are still actively involved, continuing their commitment to providing compassionate, progressive sheltering. Today, we proudly maintain a 93% adoption rate, a dramatic transformation from the early days.

We also serve the broader community by providing opportunities for 4-H groups, senior projects, community service students, counselors and clients, and individuals with special needs to learn, grow, and contribute.

Our Medical and Adoption Fund is vital to our mission. This fund is the only resource available to help shelter pets with medical needs—care that directly determines their chance at adoption. With 700 more dogs sheltered this year than last, the need has never been greater. This fund is supported solely through donations and fundraising, and we cannot sustain it without community support.

Our goal is simple: to continue operating one of the best shelters possible. With your help, we will continue to provide safety, compassion, and second chances to the pets who need us most. Every dollar donated goes directly to the dogs and cats at the Twin Falls Animal Shelter.
