ReRoot Collaborative

The Re|Root Collaborative is a startup nonprofit organization, working in Kumasi, Ghana. 

Our mission is to Humanize Waste™. 

What does this mean? Behind every story of waste production or disposal, there’s a human story. As a result of our overconsumption, massive amounts of waste are leading to not only environmental hazards, but direct human hazards that affect health, dignity, livelihoods, and communities. We seek to expose the effects waste and overconsumption has on other humans, whether it’s a Ghanaian's neighbor downstream of where they discard their waste in the river, or an American whose old clothes are shipped across the globe, and we do this by establishing proper waste management solutions, finding creative uses for the excess of secondhand clothes being brought into the country, and educating future generations on the importance of caring for each other through care of the planet. 

Our programming revolves around our three main focus areas, or “roots.” 

#1 Re|Route Waste: Develop sustainable, community-driven waste management solutions that improve environmental and public health while creating economic opportunities.

#2 Re|Imagine Textiles: Reduce textile waste by developing innovative approaches to upcycling, recycling, research, and circular textile systems.

#3 Re|Engage Communities: Equip young people and communities with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to lead environmental change.

We believe that human health, dignified livelihoods, and environmental sustainability are heavily intertwined with the waste management system that supports a society. If you are passionate about seeing these areas improved globally, we'd love to have you join the collab.
