Rooted for Change

ROOTED for Change was born from a simple yet powerful belief: access changes everything. When individuals and families have access to the right resources, relationships, and opportunities, possibilities expand.

Founded in Central Texas by Dr. John M. Edwards, ROOTED for Change is a community-driven nonprofit working to expand access to education, wellness, housing stability, and economic opportunity. Our mission is to expand that access through culturally responsive, community-driven programs that help individuals, families, and communities thrive.

ROOTED began with a vision shaped by lived experience and a recognition that people often have the potential to move forward but may not always have access to the resources and opportunities that make it possible. From the beginning, our approach has been simple: listen first, build strong partnerships, connect resources, and create pathways to opportunity.

Today, we are building our foundation across Central Texas alongside residents, schools, nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, public agencies, and other partners who believe stronger communities are built when more people can access what they need to thrive.

Our work is organized across four areas of impact:

• Education & Personal Growth – Expanding access to learning, mentorship, technology, career exposure, and personal development opportunities.
• Health & Wellness – Connecting individuals and families with resources and experiences that support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
• Economic Empowerment & Housing Stability – Strengthening pathways to employment, financial capability, economic mobility, and housing stability.
• Community Engagement & Advocacy – Building stronger community connections through outreach, partnerships, resource access, and opportunities for community voice.

Through these areas, we meet people where they are and work alongside communities to connect resources, develop responsive programs, and create opportunities that support what comes next.

Every contribution helps ROOTED strengthen our capacity, develop and expand community-driven programs, build partnerships, connect people with resources, and create more pathways to opportunity across Central Texas.
