Power in Action

BACKGROUND

Ignited by Dallas City Councilman Casey Thomas and Dr. Froswa' Booker-Drew, and with the support of two Black-led philanthropic initiatives, HERitage Giving Fund and Men of Honor, 52 community leaders convened in April 2020 to discuss concerns related to the heightened disparities and future impact of COVID-19 on Black communities throughout Dallas. Following a series of additional meetings, the group committed to leveraging their individual and collective influence to bring awareness to systemic issues, identify solutions, and eliminate disparities faced by the Black community.  

MISSION 

Our collective, now known as Power in Action,  is a fiscally sponsored nonprofit project of Moore Impact, Inc. We are committed to mobilizing to advance Black communities throughout Dallas by removing barriers caused by systemic disparities while creating windows of opportunity that strengthen and increase outcomes for individuals, families, and businesses. 

Power in Action's work is achieved through strategic priorities that enable us to: 

• Analyze the root causes of systemic issues and bring greater awareness of their relationships to the social, economic, and racial barriers impacting the Black community in Dallas;
• Develop advocacy plans that prioritize community engagement and propose local, state, and federal policy and legislative changes;
• Create new, or amplify existing, data-driven initiatives in the areas of health, economic development, education, and criminal justice by leveraging the knowledge and resources of community advocates and industry experts.
