Who We Are

One of the missions of The Open Door Network is to stop domestic violence and sexual assault in Kern County and assist survivors in reclaiming their lives. Our purpose as an agency is to make a difference in our community by providing expertise in dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault and ensuring the safety and well-being of victims and their children by providing services that address their individual needs and prepare them for self-sufficiency.
The Open Door Network is the rebranding of The Alliance Against Family Violence & Sexual Assault, which began in 1979 as a 24-hour hotline operated by a group of volunteers in Bakersfield, California. Over three decades later, the volunteers and staff continue their efforts to end domestic violence and sexual assault in our community by not only continuing to operate the hotline, but also providing crisis intervention, emergency services and supportive programs to help those who have been victimized.
