The Weight Club

The Weight Club evolved from a power-lifting organization made up of Virginia Tech students in the late 1970s. The club soon expanded to become a non-profit organization led by a board of six directors who oversaw its operations. The Weight Club first opened in Blacksburg’s University mall on University City Boulevard in 1989 and has successfully served the community since 1994.

The Weight Club now occupies about 40,000 square feet and has become a leading anchor for the University Mall. An elevated running track was added in the first major expansion of the early 2000s and remains a popular feature. The most recent major renovation, involving a year of construction, was completed by Snyder and Associates in the summer of 2017 and added new and larger locker rooms for members, which include lockers, restrooms, showers and saunas. 

This facility is managed by a Board of Directors who oversee a team of exemplary leaders who have the community's best interest at heart. TWC employs over 70 full and part time staff, including close to 40 Group Fitness Instructors. Our childcare area is designed for busy parents to drop their children in a safe environment where they can get a workout in. Massage therapy is on site as well as 10 Certified Personal Trainers that specialize in most areas of expertise. Whether you're looking for a resistance training session, a cardio blast with 25 of your fellow gym-goers or just to sit in a warm sauna to melt the stress away, The Weight Club offers everything you'd want in a fitness studio, and more.
