Bamyan Community Greenhouse Fundraiser

In Bamyan Province, Afghanistan, harsh winters and a short growing season limit what local families can grow and eat. Fresh vegetables are scarce for many months of the year, forcing families to rely on costly imported produce or go without. This not only strains already vulnerable households but also contributes to malnutrition and poor dietary diversity.

Our project seeks to change that. With your support, Direct Aid International (DAI), in partnership with the Ecology and Conservation Organization of Afghanistan (ECOA), will build a 20m x 9m community greenhouse that will provide year-round access to fresh, nutritious food while creating sustainable livelihoods.

The Goals of the Greenhouse Project:

  • Food Security: Extend the growing season so families can cultivate vegetables like tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, and herbs all year, even during Bamyan’s long winters.

  • Nutrition: Increase access to fresh produce, improving health and reducing malnutrition.

  • Income Generation: Surplus vegetables will be sold locally, giving 10–15 farming families — especially women-led households—a reliable source of income.

  • Climate Resilience: Protect crops from frost, pests, and unpredictable weather, building long-term food security.

  • Sustainability: Operated as a cooperative, the greenhouse will be maintained by the community itself, with profits reinvested into upkeep and expansion.

Why This Cause Matters

This greenhouse is more than a structure — it’s an opportunity for families to thrive. It means children having access to fresh vegetables through the long, cold months when nothing grows. It means mothers and fathers generating reliable income to support their households, instead of relying on uncertain markets or costly imports. It means resilience in the face of climate challenges and the chance to build a stronger, healthier community from the ground up.

Supporting this project is about planting seeds of hope. It’s about giving families the tools to provide for themselves, to strengthen their nutrition, and to pass on a model of sustainability that can be replicated across Bamyan Province. A gift here doesn’t just help for a season—it helps for years to come.

Your contribution helps us move closer to building this greenhouse and creating a brighter, healthier future for 10–15 families in Bamyan. Together, we can plant the seeds of resilience, growth, and hope.

Thank you for being part of this work and helping to build a stronger, healthier Bamyan community.
