Massive Colony of 27 Kittens
$12,580 AWAY FROM OUR GOAL!
In September, Hope 4 Paws, a rescue based out of John Day, Oregon reached out to Simply Cats. A massive colony had been discovered, and the local resources were scarce, leaving them with little support. Their available foster homes were already stretched thin.
The rescue team knew that the younger kittens had a chance at becoming socialized and eventually finding loving homes. So, they took action and began reaching out to multiple rescues in the surrounding areas.
Thanks to our incredible network of compassionate foster families, we heard their plea and stepped up to the challenge. Our foster team rallied together and welcomed a total of 27 kittens of various ages, into our foster program.
These kittens, arriving fresh from their colony, came in malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from a persistent strain of URI (Upper Respiratory Infection). Each kitten received thorough examinations and was sent to foster care to start their upper respiratory infection treatment.
Multiple checkups and rounds of antibiotics were required to combat their infections. Our fosters remained committed to ensure that these kittens would soon be ready for their forever homes.
Hope 4 Paws, the rescue that reached out to us, expressed their gratitude for our support. Our assistance allowed them to allocate their limited resources to spaying and neutering the adult cats in the colony. Without our intervention, this colony would have continued to reproduce at a rate beyond their capacity to manage.
This heartwarming collaboration exemplifies the power of coming together as a community to make a profound difference in the lives of these vulnerable animals.
The average cost to care for one kitten is approximately $183. In total, the cost to care for these 27 precious kittens was about $4,941.
Orphaned, malnourished, and sick kittens – like these 27 kittens – don’t stand a chance on their own. They rely on people like you, and organizations like us to save their lives.
When you donate this Giving Tuesday, you will make a difference in the lives of orphaned kittens in need.
We are only $12,580 away from our goal of $45,000. Can you help us reach our goal?
Wonder was just three weeks old when she was found all alone outside with severely infected eyes. The finder wasted no time, rushing her to the vet who prescribed antibiotics to combat the infection. Due to the severity of the infections, the vet felt that Wonder was most likely blind.
Recognizing that Wonder needed ongoing medical care and, eventually, a forever home, the finder reached out to Simply Cats for assistance.
When Wonder entered the shelter on August 31st, she was only six weeks old and in dire straits. She was malnourished and plagued by a terrible flea infestation, which had left her anemic. One of her eyes had ruptured, and the other one was permanently damaged. Wonder did not pass her vision screening, confirming her complete blindness.
Wonder was placed in foster care that very day and began her remarkable journey to recovery. She received multiple flea baths, medications to treat her anemia, and antibiotics to address the remaining infection in her eyes.
Wonder needed time to gain strength before her surgery and her amazing foster family made sure that she had all she needed to thrive. Finally, on October 19th, Wonder had double enucleation surgery and both eyes were removed. She returned to her foster home, recovered well, and in no time was back to her sweet self, full of life.
From day one, Wonder has proven herself to be a brave and confident little feline. She quickly adapted to her surroundings, mastering the art of navigating the house, using the litter box, finding her food and water, and even conquering stairs and the second floor.
Wonder is just like any other cat when it comes to playtime. She loves chasing balls, engaging in friendly wrestling matches with her surrogate siblings, and basking in the sun for well-deserved catnaps.
Wonder is an inspiration, a true testament to resilience, and a reminder that every cat, no matter the challenges they face, deserves a chance at a happy and fulfilling life.
Without donations, we cannot provide lifesaving care to orphaned kittens in need like Wonder. This year for #GivingTuesday, help us reach our goal of $45,000 for cats and kittens in need. When you donate, this is how you make a difference:
$10 donation can feed a cat for one month
$25 donation can vaccinate/microchip one cat
$50 donation can neuter a male cat
$100 donation can spay a female cat
$200 donation can save a litter of kittens
Help us reach our goal during Giving Tuesday!
