Nine adorable puppies have had a very sad start to their lives. They were never wanted by mama dog's owner and as soon as they were old enough to be weaned, the puppies were dropped off at a rural VA shelter. We aren't sure why the owner didn't have his dog spayed, but we do know that Hickory, Gourd, Copper, Birch, Russet, Oak, Maple, Apple, and Fern all deserve to have a life of stability, comfort and love. Right now, all the puppies are scared and living in cold cages with little interaction from humans. No warm blankets, no gentle touches, no people to hold and cuddle them. They have almost no chance of getting adopted from the rural shelter so every day they continue to be a statistic - part of the 3.3 million dogs that enter shelters nationwide every year. Homeward Trails does not want these puppies to have this kind of start to life. Every day they are stuck in a cage is a day they miss out on socialization and seeing the world. Taking on 9 puppies is a huge undertaking. They all need to be transported to the DC area and have veterinary care asap. Without your donation, it becomes almost impossible to save such a big litter. Please sponsor these babies today. You'll truly save their lives!
