Hi! I'm Allison McCormick, Former Vice Mayor and Councilmember of the Village of Key Biscayne, Florida.
Give Miami Day
I'm supporting this nonprofit on Give Miami Day because I know first hand how important local news coverage is.
Having served 8 years in local government, I have witnessed how destructive misinformation and disinformation can be in a small community. Honest and fair reporting is essential to keep communities thriving and working together.
Take a moment to learn a bit more about this group of hardworking volunteers making a big difference:
Miami Fourth Estate believes every village and town should have access to professional news coverage about locally important issues. We do that by leveraging volunteer time and hiring professionals who work alongside concerned residents to create nonpartisan, fact-driven, solid news reporting focusing on local issues critical to residents: local government, elections, development, schools, crime, environment, and the arts and culture.
We’re pleased to have delivered another year of high-impact reporting and proud of the awards and recognition our staff and paper has received. And, we’re are thrilled to have been able to expand into Liberty City with the Liberty City Independent.
In our starter location, Key Biscayne, we are working on new, locally relevant, continuing features and are looking forward to continuing to build a stronger, more informed community in the year ahead.
There’s lots of national news and talking heads. But the local news gap is the one that’s the most critical.
Real local news has disappeared in most of America. It costs money to cover our local government, to sift through public records requests, to monitor and report on court cases, to curate news content from our partners and to report on under-covered arts, culture and human interest stories.
None of this work is possible without the ongoing support of the community. This worthy nonprofit is creating news for YOU, not for shareholders.
Your gift matters. Keep real reporting alive.
Thanks, Allison
