Danville- Virginia's Most Challenging Community

Shelly had a massive upper respiratory infection & was pregnant at the Danville animal shelter. Only with our immediate rescue and vet care did she and her kittens survive.

Without our work in Danville, VA thousands of animals would still be losing their lives - for no reason.

Our Homeward Trails Danville program means we have staff on the ground every day. They are in the local shelter multiple times as week organizing transports, removing animals for emergency foster and medical care. And advocating. We are constantly advocating for lifesaving programs and practices.

Our work to date since July 2025 has resulted in literally thousands of lives saved - through rescue and field work. 

This is our most challenging community as the local government officials have ZERO interest in having a lifesaving shelter. Leadership is lacking and old-school sheltering means too few animals leave alive.

Euthanasia happens so often for many unnecessary reasons that it's hard for us to keep up. But we fight every single day for the animals of Danville.

Our work is exhausting. But the animals are worth it. We cannot do it without your support.
