If you've been following our efforts to rescue cats from war-torn Ukraine, you may recognize Gizmo. When our team met her in the temporary shelter in Ukraine, they knew she would need more vetting and TLC than she could receive there. Her back feet were clubbed and she had respiratory issues. She flew back with them last week and has now been to the vet.

She had x-rays taken of her feet and spine which the radiologist diagnosed as osteochondrodysplasia - something she was born with. This disorder is most associated with overbreeding of Scottish Fold breeds causing disorders of the growth of bone and cartilage.  This disease is progressive and will worsen over time, including severe arthritis of the joints. Additionally, she had an open sore on her feet caused by the way she has to stand and walk on her clubbed back feet. She also had blood work and luckily those results came back normal.

Gizmo is going to need daily pain management and other meds to help control the osteochondrodysplasia. She will need repeat visits to the vet for the sore on her leg in order to keep it clean and to make sure it heals properly and to make sure the medication is helping. Please help us make sure Gizmo gets the care she needs to live her best life.
