Lupton Lifts Community

Our Story

Over the past several months, families throughout the Buford Highway corridor have experienced an unprecedented level of instability. As immigration enforcement activities have increased across Georgia, many hardworking families have found themselves facing sudden financial crises through no fault of their own.

When a parent or primary wage earner is unexpectedly detained, the immediate needs are rarely complex, but they are urgent.

Families suddenly need money for transportation, groceries, utility payments, temporary childcare, rent, or to help relatives who have stepped forward to care for children during an emergency.

While We Love Buford Highway and our community partners continue to provide food, resources, and navigation support, we have identified a growing gap: small amounts of immediate financial assistance often prevent a temporary crisis from becoming a long-term emergency.

To address this need, We Love Buford Highway proposes the creation of Lupton Lifts Community, a community-driven emergency assistance campaign led in partnership with State Representative Karen Lupton.

Together, our goal is to raise $10,000 through MightyCause to provide rapid, dignified financial assistance to families experiencing verified hardship.

Why Now?

Every week we encounter stories that remind us how fragile stability can be.

A family cannot afford enough gas to travel to work after losing one income.

A grandparent unexpectedly becomes the caregiver for young children.

A mother struggles to pay rent after her husband is detained.

A family needs groceries while waiting for other forms of assistance to become available.

These are not long-term dependency issues.

They are short-term crises requiring immediate community response.

Often, assistance of $50–$500 can mean the difference between maintaining stability and falling deeper into hardship.

Purpose

The purpose of Lupton Lifts Community is simple:

To provide timely emergency financial assistance that helps families maintain dignity, stability, and hope during moments of crisis.

Funds may assist with:

• Emergency groceries
• Transportation (gas cards, ride share, MARTA)
• Utility assistance
• Temporary rental assistance
• Emergency childcare
• Essential household necessities
• Other urgent stabilization needs reviewed on a case-by-case basis
