Access Humboldt (AH) is an essential bastion of democracy, freedom of expression, inclusion, and equity. You might say that AH is a place where our nation’s Bill of Rights comes to life.

Access Humboldt provides a crucial watchdog function, bringing a wide variety of governmental and other public meetings right into your home. On its TV and streaming channels, Access Humboldt offers a video platform for all local points of view and the staff will teach anyone how to use the technology to share theirs.

While its Congressionally-mandated funding (a tiny percentage of the profits of cable providers) is drying up as viewers switch to internet streaming services (which also use public ‘airways’ but do not contribute to public access media centers), Access Humboldt has pivoted to an innovative, community-minded fundraising model: celebrations throughout the year that provide a rising financial tide that raises all boats. 

In May, there is the Bold Day of Giving (May 29), the culmination of  two months of trainings offered by Access Humboldt to up to fifty local nonprofits (this year thirty-eight are taking part). Nonprofit leaders hone their skills and put these to use: each nonprofit creates and records a TV spot that receives repeated air time on AH.
