This Giving Tuesday in honor of Indigenous Peoples Month and to recognize the Indigenous Day of Mourning, all funds will go towards our new Land Justice Fund.

PDF believes that land governance in the United States must change to recognize and uphold Indigenous rights and responsibilities, and to restore our ecosystems.

The Land Justice Fund is dedicated to connecting resources to Indigenous, grassroots organizations for programs or initiatives that move or restore lands.

Your gift to the Land Justice Fund will:

  • Empower Indigenous communities: Support Indigenous-led initiatives that reclaim ancestral lands and protect sacred sites.
  • Restore ecosystems: Contribute to projects that revitalize natural habitats and promote biodiversity.
  • Build a sustainable future: Invest in a legacy of land justice for generations to come, including cultural reconnection.

#Land Back is a national movement to restore Indigenous lands back into Indigenous hands, with philanthropists playing a critical financing role in that rematriation process.

Paul Haible, PDF’s Executive Director from 2004-2024, has had a long history of partnering with Indigenous organizing groups including advocating for the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples that was established in 2002.  Recently, he worked with a donor to fund land justice projects from the proceeds of the sale of their family farm in Illinois.  Through that project PDF granted more than $375,000 to land back projects, Native land restoration, and cultural reconnection work.

To celebrate and recognize Paul on his retirement, we have established the Land Justice Fund.
