Bolt the Bald Eagle crashed on the MacDill runway in 2019 as a hatch year bird.  Airmen rescued the bald eagle and named him after their plane.  Bolt was treated for his injuries at Busch Gardens and transferred to Moccasin Lake Nature Park. On Tuesday July 4th Bolt will be moved from his "Bachelor's officers quarters, aka BOQ," to be placed in the eagle enclosure with Penelope, the parks female eagle. Tampa Bay Raptor Rescue is seeking $2000 in donations to support Bolt's food and veterinary care over the coming year. Donations in honor of veteran's are welcomed.  Bald eagle nesting has been documented at the air force as far back as 1940, but most likely the genetics of these birds have existed there for centuries.

On October 17th, Bolt crash landed again.  This time breaking his leg!  The leg has been pinned but we are attempting to raise an additional $3000 to cover the cost of his surgery.
