15km for $1,500 for Nuevas Esperanzas 15 years

Hello friends, I’m Leo, Nuevas Esperanzas Director, and am going from couch to not 5 but 15 kilometres to celebrate the 15 years of Nuevas Esperanzas, and hopefully raise $1,500. This year the campaign is focused on doing sponsored activities, and I initially thought of doing something I am relatively good at, and decided to sing a nice song with my guitar and put a virtual tips jar for Nuevas Esperanzas. I even chose the song. But, after re-thinking the needs of the families we serve and the long list of work needed to be done in these communities, I thought I needed to do something that really challenged me if I want to move people to donate. And running, running definitely will. I have to admit that I’m terrible at exercising, so it will hurt for sure, but I hope it will be worth it too!

My first and only adventure of this kind was on the Nuevas Esperanzas 10th anniversary when we ran 10 kilometres –it was SUPER tough. Now, running 50% farther, being 5 years older and, 20 pounds heavier, will be a real challenge …

So, on November 1st, I will run up to 15 kilometres, 1 kilometre per hundred dollars raised. And, if the $1,500 target is surpassed, I will sing that song I was rehearsing –if I survive the 15 kilometres, of course!

Hola amigos, soy Leo, director de Nuevas Esperanzas, y voy a correr 15 kilómetros para celebrar los 15 años de Nuevas Esperanzas y, con su apoyo, recaudar $ 1,500 para nuestros proyectos. Este año la campaña se trata hacer actividades patrocinadas, e inicialmente pensé en hacer algo en lo que soy más o menos bueno, y decidí cantar una canción con mi guitarra y poner un sombrero virtual de donaciones para Nuevas Esperanzas. Incluso elegí la canción. Pero, después de pensar más detenidamente en las necesidades de las familias a las que servimos y en la larga lista de trabajos por hay que hacer en estas comunidades, concluí que tenía que hacer algo que realmente me desafiara si quería que la gente nos apoyara. Y correr… correr definitivamente será un desafío. Tengo que admitir que soy terrible haciendo ejercicio, así que me va a costar un montón, ¡pero espero que también valga la pena!

Mi primera y única aventura de este tipo fue en el 10mo aniversario de Nuevas Esperanzas, cuando corrimos 10 kilómetros, y fue SÚPER DIFÍCIL. Ahora, correr un 50% más lejos, 5 años más viejo y, pesando 20 libras más, será un verdadero desafío...

Entonces, el 1ro de noviembre, correré hasta un total 15 kilómetros, 1 kilómetro por cada cien dólares recaudados. Y, si se supera el objetivo de los $1,500, cantaré la canción que estaba ensayando, ¡si sobrevivo los 15 kilómetros, claro!
