Charley the osprey was injured in the nest as a small chick resulting in a permanent wing deformity. The Fort DeSoto nest was co-located on a Duke Energy Platform. Duke Energy de-energized the line and safely rescued the chick. He now lives at Moccasin Lake Raptor Sanctuary. Funds collected will support his meal plan, housing, enrichment and veterinary care. Additionally, funds will be applied to osprey platforms, particularly at schools. Annually we spend in excess of $2000 to place osprey chicks back into their nests or foster them into other nests. We participate in the Center for Conservation Biology's Global Osprey Program and are participating in a genetics study. Currently we are making hurricane repairs as we continue to focus on resilience and sustainability.
