Salaam Community Wellness Center (SCWC) The Salaam Community Wellness Center (SCWC) was established in April of 2020 to address the health and healthcare disparities that were heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have joined forces with Neighborhood Laundries in the Woodlawn community on Chicago's South Side  to create a health and wellness movement.

SCWC's focus will be to provide an unique, innovative, integrative model of healthcare utilizing western and non-western modalities to address critical needs in the community including primary care, addictions, mental health and nutrition. Patients will have the benefits of access to therapies such as individual and group counseling, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture, deep-breathing and meditation, yoga, tai chi and chi gong. These modalities have centuries of proof of effectiveness but have not been readily available to low-income communities and communities of color.

Our community garden will serve as a "holistic healing space" where patients and residents will have access to healthy produce. This space will also be used to conduct some of the mind-body classes and provide a place for meditation, contemplation and healing.

Achieving health and wellness will require addressing the social determinants of health. Through the partnership with Neighborhood Laundries, SCWC will be helping patients move towards improving their lives through the provision of financial literacy, development of a financial institution, building entrepreneurship opportunities and workforce training. few.

Salaam Community Wellness Center recognizes that the road to true health and wellness must pass through all of these paths.
