Humboldt County's Movie Palace
The Eureka Theater has always been more than a building. Since 1939, it has stood at the heart of Eureka as a place where people gather, celebrate, learn, and experience the joy of shared artistic expression.
Its Streamline-Moderne façade and iconic marquee have welcomed generations of families, and its auditorium has echoed with laughter, applause, debate, and discovery for more than eighty years. Today, as Humboldt County grows, changes, and redefines its cultural identity, the Eureka Theater remains as a great civic space where the community can truly come together.
Our Year in Review
In 2025, the theater demonstrated just how essential it is to the life of our region. This year marked one of the most active calendars the theater has hosted, with more than 50 public events representing the diversity, creativity, and resilience of Humboldt County.
Classic films, live performances, community gatherings, fundraisers, school events, film premieres, cultural programs, and local arts showcases filled the schedule—each one proving that the theater is not merely a historic treasure but an active, relevant, and irreplaceable community hub.
This year’s programming highlighted the theater’s commitment to serving as a home for local voices. A Double Feature Fundraiser, which presented two locally produced short films, brought filmmakers and audiences together in a meaningful celebration of regional talent. The premiere of Behold and Hear, a Humboldt-made horror short, drew notable attention and underscored the theater’s growing role as a platform for regional film production.
Community-oriented performances, from the Redwood Coast Music Festival to electronic dance events featuring local DJs and dancers, showcased the creativity of local performers and reminded audiences of the many ways the theater can transform into a stage for something entirely unexpected.
Beyond films and performances, the theater was a gathering place for civic, cultural, and nonprofit organizations. Community groups used the space to host celebrations, fundraisers, and educational events, reinforcing the idea that the Eureka Theater belongs to all of us.
Help Build the Future
The Eureka Theater is operated almost entirely by volunteers—people who love the theater enough to give their time, energy, and skills to keep it open. But to ensure the theater’s future, we must now evolve. A sustainable path forward requires dedicated staff to manage events, support facility operations, and lead a capital campaign capable of restoring the theater to its full potential. Our goal in 2026 is to invest in professional management and to kick-off a new capital campaign to bring our restoration project "across the finish line."
Imagine what the Eureka Theater could be:
• A fully restored Streamline Moderne palace, glowing again with its brilliant 1939 façade and marquee.
• A premier venue for concerts, touring productions, film festivals, local arts showcases, and civic events.
• A thriving center of tourism, culture, and nightlife in downtown Eureka.
• A community space where students perform, filmmakers premiere their work, nonprofits gather, and residents of every background feel welcome.
This vision is within reach—but only with community support.
Every donation—large or small—builds momentum toward preserving this landmark for generations. The Eureka Theater has always belonged to the people of Humboldt County. Its history is our history. Its future depends on us.
In 2025, we saw what the theater can be at its best: a place of creativity, connection, celebration, and pride. With your support, the next chapter can be even brighter. Together, we can restore the Eureka Theater, strengthen its role as a cultural anchor, and ensure that this beloved gathering place continues to inspire and unite our community for decades to come.
The Eureka Theater’s lights are still shining. With your help, they’ll shine brighter than ever.
