She should have been safe. Sierra had already endured so many changes, yet life kept asking more of her.

Sierra first came to Simply Cats as an owner surrender. Within a week, she was adopted and we all hoped she had finally found stability. But six months later, that hope unraveled. A good Samaritan found her wandering alone, confused and hungry. Her new adopter was unreachable. 

Thankfully, her microchip brought her back to her original owner, who immediately reached out to us for help.

During her exam, our team saw the danger right away. Sierra was yellow from jaundice. Something was seriously wrong. 

Further evaluation pointed to Hepatic Lipidosis, Fatty Liver Disease, a condition that develops when a cat stops eating for several days. Without treatment, it can be fatal.

She needed intervention fast. Sierra underwent surgery to place a feeding tube and was moved into one of our skilled foster homes where she could receive the constant, careful support she needed to survive. Those early days were fragile. She was tired, quiet and fighting an uphill battle.

And then the small signs of life returned.

A faint purr.

A soft meow asking for company.

A spark in her eyes when she batted at a toy for the first time in weeks.

With steady care, Sierra grew stronger. She eventually came back to Simply Cats for continued monitoring, and when she was ready, she found a new home, one where she is truly safe, loved, and finally able to rest.
