A 9-Year-Old Girl. A Mom With Cancer. A Season That Feels Heavy.
This year, we were asked to support a 9-year-old girl whose mom is in the middle of a cancer fight. It’s been a hard season for their family — a lot of worry, a lot of unknowns, and not a lot of room left for the simple joys kids her age usually get to have.
When we asked what she liked, her answers were so beautifully normal:
She loves volleyball. She loves crafts and doing her hair. She wants one of those big cozy wearable hoodies. She likes silly toys — pogo balls, skip balls. Her favorite animal is a capybara.
She watches Stranger Things and The Goldbergs to escape for a bit.
Her wishes this year are small and thoughtful: A navy coat. A cuddly capybara plush. A toy or two that makes her smile.
Nothing extravagant. Just pieces of childhood she can hold onto while her mom focuses on getting well.
