I grew up attending summer programs at IMA, and it was essentially rock n' roll boot camp. I learned everything there, from arranging my original music for a band to engineering a recording session.
IMA has given me the confidence to survive in the music industry as an artist and audio engineer. There is a lot of misogyny to wade through when pursuing music. IMA serves as a sanctuary from all that, and paves better path forward where women and non binary artists can create together, instead of against each other.
June Millington, co-founder of IMA, would tell us: "don't be precious!" As a girl, I felt expected to censor myself constantly. But at IMA, I could sing and play unapologetically -- liberated from the expectation to "be precious," all while honing my craft. Thank you June and Ann, for setting us free!
Most recently, I interned at their summer recording program for young adults, and it was incredible. By donating to this page, you are helping IMA to pay interns like me, fund scholarships, and invest in some new equipment. Thank you for your support!
