A Story of Loss…
In November 2024, Chance (2413F) and 2444M welcomed 5 wild-born pups.
In February 2025, the father was struck and killed by a vehicle.
Without him, the mother couldn’t provide, and the pups were lost.
➡ One vehicle collision caused 6 deaths.
…And a Story of Hope
In April 2025, a new litter was born to 2503F and 2191M (Finch).
Out of 8 pups, 5 are still alive—a rare and critical success.
Why Wildlife Crossings Matter:
A major effort to establish wildlife crossings on Highway 64 in North Carolina was funded in 2024.
Crossings protect:
✔ Red Wolves
✔ Black Bears
✔ Bobcats
✔ Spotted Turtles
✔ And 20+ other species
Crossings protect people, too:
• Wildlife collisions kill 200+ people annually in the U.S.
• Cost: $10 billion every year
• Crossings reduce collisions by up to 97%
