Heart of the Brain Foundation (HOTBF). Our mission is to relieve trauma and support children with autism and Down Syndrome by creating safe, sensory-adaptive environments that foster emotional, sensory, and social development. Heart of the Brain Foundation proudly serves families across the Hampton Roads region of Virginia—including Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Newport News. 

Founded in 2022 by Royal Harris, a parent of a child with autism, Heart of the Brain Foundation was created to fill the critical need for sensory resources for children with developmental and cognitive disabilities. 

Core Programs include: 

Adaptive play areas and recreational spaces

Sensory play therapy

Family engagement resources & community events

Autism and neurodiversity awareness campaigns

Heart of the Brain Foundation has reached hundreds of families through partnerships with schools, agencies, and community groups. The foundation has also been featured in local media and advocacy spaces, strengthening its credibility as a trusted community leader.

We are seeking partners and sponsors to help launch our Sensory Daycare Center and support ongoing programs that provide therapeutic care for children while assisting families and educators. We rely on the generosity of community members, businesses, and partners like you.
