Kentuckians for LYG – Standing Up for Kentucky’s LGBTQIA+ Youth
We are Kentuckians for LYG, a group of people from across the Commonwealth who believe in building a brighter, more inclusive future for our state—a future where all of Kentucky’s children are safe, supported, and free to be themselves. Right now, that future is under threat.
With the passage of KY SB150 in 2023, LGBTQIA+ youth in Kentucky have faced an onslaught of discrimination and fear. This devastating anti-LGBTQ law restricts access to critical support, makes it harder for students to express their identities in school, and silences the conversations that LGBTQIA+ students need to feel safe and accepted. It’s a harsh reminder that many young people in our state are still fighting for their basic rights.
That’s why we’re standing with Louisville Youth Group (LYG) during Give for Good Louisville 2024. LYG has been on the front lines of this fight, providing safe spaces and life-saving support for LGBTQIA+ youth across Kentucky since 1990. Now, more than ever, their work is critical.
LYG’s Role in Empowering LGBTQIA+ Youth
In the wake of SB150, LYG hasn’t backed down—they’ve doubled down. LYG has been organizing and empowering students through advocacy and support, helping them find their voice in the face of adversity. They’re providing critical mental health resources, safe spaces, and leadership opportunities for LGBTQIA+ youth who are feeling the effects of this harmful legislation.
Coming up on October 5th, LYG will host the "Rainbow Revolution" KY GSA Summit, bringing together LGBTQIA+ students from across the state. This summit is a chance for students to unite, organize, and lead the charge for a more inclusive Kentucky. It’s a space for students to find strength in numbers, connect with others, and build a movement that will push back against the fear and division that SB150 has created.
