Cycle Across Illinois is a charity bicycle ride that benefits the Illinois chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (ILCOPS). ILCOPS is an organization dedicated to providing support and resources for surviving family members, loved ones, and co-workers of Illinois Police Officers killed in the line of duty. This year will be the 21st anniversary of Cycle Across Illinois.
Cycle Across Illinois is the biggest fundraiser for ILCOPS. Last year, the ride raised over $150,000.00 after expenses. We wish the organization didn’t have to exist, but unfortunately it is needed now more than ever. In 2024, there were 164 duty deaths, including 9 from Illinois. This was a 6% increase from the previous year.
This year, we will be riding for 9 Illinois Police Officers killed in the line of duty in 2024, as well as 3 K-9s. We make stops along the ride and have memorials to honor the fallen officers. Family and friends of the fallen officers often join us along the way.
The ride will take place on July 10-13. It will start in Champaign and end in Chicago, covering about 350 miles over 3 1/2 days. There will be around 100 cyclists and 30 members of the support team. The ride consists of active and retired law enforcement officers, survivors, and civilian supporters. Our team is comprised of individuals affiliated with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Granite City Police Department (hence Team MadGC), and Troy Police Department. Our team includes riders and support team members. Each participant is required to fundraise.
The motto of Cycle Across Illinois is to honor our heroes, remember the fallen, and support their families. We hope you will consider donating, so those affected by an Illinois duty death can continue to receive assistance with their grief journey.
ILCOPS is a registered 501(c)(3) organization.
