ABOUT

Darkness RISING is an arts and mental health 501(c)3 nonprofit. We provide free community wellness workshops, REBUILD, Find Me a Therapist, a Black Mental Health Resource Packet, a Black Mental Health Provider Database, inspirational cover songs, visual albums, and live concerts created by Black Broadway and theatre professionals, many who have experienced a mental health condition. Darkness RISING reimagines mental healthcare by providing safe, equitable resources, addressing issues impacting the Black community and other marginalized groups, connecting individuals to vital support, and working to erase the stigma surrounding mental health. Our resources, events and services empower the Black community, communities of color, the formerly incarcerated community, LGBTQIA individuals, those with lived mental health challenges, and those at the intersection of these communities.

-Raise awareness about mental health in our community

-Empower and engage our community via resources, events and services

OUR WORK 

Darkness RISING Project offers these FREE resources:

- Black Mental Health Provider Database: Includes Black therapists, counselors psychiatrists and life coaches. 

- Black Mental Health Resource Packet:  Directories, apps, podcast, organizations, advocates, emergency hotlines. Communities supported: Black community, LGBTQIA, Vets, Substance Use, Postpartum, 

- Broadway for Mental Health Support: A partnership with Broadway producers to provide free therapy for Broadway company members, created in partnership with Tony Winner Adrienne Warren.  

- Find Me a Therapist Program:  Find Me A Therapist is a free program that directly assists community members in the search for Black therapists. Therapy Seekers fill out a digital form to make customized requests for culturally competent therapy and can expect to receive contact information for up to 3 Black therapists which meet their criteria, tips for their first therapy consultation, and more. As with any service, users are encouraged to research and consult with any providers before working with them to ensure a good fit. 

- REBUILD: REBUILD connects justice-involved individuals to culturally competent therapists, and pays for up to 10 therapy sessions. 

- Darkness RISING: Live: A concert featuring Broadway's best and our Black mental health educators

- Wellness Wednesday Workshop: Free community wellness workshops featuring Black therapists, mental health educators, fitness, yoga, mediation workshops and more. 

- Music & Mental Health Video Series:  YouTube wellness and music series featuring artists from the Black Broadway community and Black mental health providers.
