Friends of Chimps is a volunteer-run nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2010 to support the chimpanzees of Ngamba Island Sanctuary in Uganda and to help protect chimpanzees worldwide.
We help support the more than 50 chimpanzee orphans rescued and living at the Ngamba Island sanctuary. And your giving also helps wild-living chimps and the people they live alongside in Uganda through the community-based Bulindi Chimpanzee & Community Project. We make sure your donation goes a very long way - and makes a world of difference!
Your donation will provide much-needed food and program supplies. Look at how far a donation goes:
$25 - A bag of fresh fruit for the Sanctuary
$50 - Annual primary school fees for one child
$100 - Annual "adoption" of 2 Sanctuary chimpanzees
$150 - Gear and supplies for chimpanzee caregivers and monitors
$250 - One year support of a young woman in upper division, vocational school, or college.
Every dollar counts - and we mean it! A $1 donation enables us to plant a tree that will help replenish the deforestation that affects the chimps and their communities.

Bulindi Chimpanzee & Community Project (BCCP)
The forests of the Budongo-Bugoma Corridor in western Uganda are home to a number of wild chimpanzee communities. Since 2006, more than 80% of their habitat has been cleared for lumber and agricultural use, greatly threatening their survival. But BCCP is making a difference!
Since 2016, Friends of Chimps has been supporting this community-based conservation project that helps people, chimps, and forests. The team:
The Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
The Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is located in Lake Victoria and home to more than 50 chimps rescued from across Uganda.
It is entirely dedicated to the chimpanzees with 95 acres of open forest habitat available to the chimps everyday. A member of the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance, Ngamba is considered one of the leading primate sanctuaries in the world where researchers, institutions and other sanctuaries come to learn, collaborate and share knowledge.
But the need is great, and the great team at the Sanctuary needs our support!
