Please join me in supporting the Bay Area Urban Debate League. If you know me, you've probably heard me blather on about this fine organization and the impact it has on youth in our own backyards. I say "our own backyards," but in the neighborhoods where these young people live, the odds are stacked against them. Graduation rates are way too low and homicide rates are way too high. I see three options:
- Ignore the problem. (NOPE)
- Rely on our federal government to improve public education and social services. (HAH!)
- Contribute to organizations that are making a difference. (Tell me more.)
BAUDL is making a difference. 85% of our students are people of color and 80% are low income. Yet BAUDL students excel in terms of graduation rates, college attendance, reading scores, and more. We're giving young people who have very limited opportunities a chance to become a voice for their communities and tomorrow's leaders.
