Giving Tuesday is our biggest day of fundraising. Can you help us reach our goals?

$20,000 goal

Since 2017, Green Halo Scholars has supported over 100 first-generation and low-income high school seniors from the western suburbs of Chicago in their path to and through college. Through one-on-one mentoring, we assist our students in matriculating to college by providing college application support, essay and test prep tutoring, interview preparation, and financial aid advocacy. We work hand-in-hand with the school counseling offices of seven local high schools to complement their work and ensure that no student falls through the cracks.

The funds we raise on Giving Tuesday directly impact our scholars through things like textbook stipends, tutoring and test prep support, and college enrollment deposits. College enrollment deposits range from $50 to $500. According to the Education Data Initiative, the average cost of college textbooks in 2021 was $1240, and two-thirds of students will avoid buying materials due to steep prices.  Funds raised on Giving Tuesday will help us ensure that our students are prepared for college, able to accept their enrollment offer at the best-fit institution, and successful once they arrive on campus.

Your donation will help us serve scholars like Yanfu, a senior from Lyons Township. According to Yanfu, "everything is extra difficult" as a first-generation college student.  In addition to one-on-one mentoring, Green Halo helped him reach his SAT score goal of 1500 through tutoring with The Village Tutors, one of our community partners, as well as supported him through the application process for the QuestBridge National College Match Program, of which he is a finalist.
