Hi friends!
This is my fundraising page for Fit to Recover's annual Giving Tuesday Fundraiser. Fit to Recover is a nonprofit community center for people recovering from substance misuse to connect through fitness, nutrition, creative arts, and service.
I found FTR in 2019, I was scared to show up to a place where I didn't know anyone, especially since I was going through a dark time in my life. When I walked through the doors, I was met with open arms. That day I got to meet other strong people in recovery who inspired me and showed me I wasn't alone.
Today, I get to use my experience in recovery and walking through hard experiences to be there for and support people who are beginning their recovery journey. I am a part of a community of people who have been with me since the beginning of my sobriety, and have seen me through the last 5 years. They’ve helped me grow, learn, and move forward. This wouldn’t have been possible without Fit to Recover and the space it gives to people to foster healing, connection, and a life in recovery.
As the Creative Arts Lead, I get to introduce individuals to creative outlets that can help them support their healing. We also get to hold sober events for our community to give our community a sense of normalcy and fun in their recovery. I hope to raise money to hold more dance classes, help others record music in our studio, and purchase new instruments and art supplies.
As a Peer Support Specialist, I get to hold space for the LGBTQ+ population. We work out and have a group after to check in, let the group know how we are doing, and ask for support with anything we need help with. I started this group in September of 2022, and have gotten to see this group grow and individuals make life-saving connections to support them in recovery.
I have a goal of raising $1,000 this year for FTR to help the organization sustain its impact, build and further develop the Creative Arts Pillar, and continue to support the recovering LGBTQ+ Community.
Thank you so much for donating to Fit to Recover this Giving Tuesday. Thank you for donating to me and my family. Thank you for contributing to my recovery.
